Mass import and update

Since version 4.11, ServiceNav offers a mass import and update function, designed to support the introduction of new hosts and changes on a large scale.

Navigate to the Imports menu

The user's role must have the right to access the menu item.

Go to the Configuration > General > Imports

The information required is :

  • The file to import
  • Import mode

By default, an import processes both lines that already have an ID (update) and those that do not (create). In order to ensure that only one of these two operations is performed (especially in the case of large and/or unreliable files), it is possible to limit processing to update or creation alone.

  • Entity

It is currently possible to import Hosts or Servicesusing this feature.

Content of the file

The expected format is CSVwith an encoding of UTF-8.

The maximum size depends on your platform settings.

A file must be imported in the same language in which it was exported (if an export was made). Otherwise, the supplied values, such as argument names, will not find a match and the lines will be rejected.

The required columns and headers correspond in all cases to the format of the file exported via Configuration > Services > List or Configuration > Hosts > List. The format must be respected.

How to update/empty a field

General

The value of a field is taken from the export

If this value is retained, the field will not be modified.

If another value is entered, the field will be updated.

If no value is filled in (empty cell), the field will be cleared.

Related entities: columns with the names of related entities are exported for information purposes. The import is based only on the IDs

  • For example, to add or modify an availability range or a label, we use the ID column, the only column taken into account in the import.

If a mandatory field is empty, the line will be not be updated, to ensure data consistency.

Passwords

The fields of type

  • account > password
  • account > encryption password
  • account > secret application

contain for export, whether they are protected in the service/hostthe value '**************' (10 stars). If they are inherited, the value is empty.

If this value is retained in the file, the field will not be modified.

If another value is entered, the password will be updated (and encrypted when imported).

If no value is entered (empty cell), the password will be emptied.

The value of a field related to a monitoring account cannot be filled in if the account is inherited.

Conversely, it cannot be empty if the account is protected.

Hosts - host templates and labels

These fields must contain one or more ID:Label associations, separated by |.

Caution Adding one or more host templates does not deploy the associated services on the new host.

Start import

Once the file is filled in, and the entity selected, it is possible to launch the import operation by clicking on

Once the import is launched, a progress report is displayed. Depending on the size of the file, the operation may take several minutes.

Caution : an import operation is linked to a user. It is impossible, for the same user, to launch a new import as long as the previous one is not finished. However, it is perfectly possible, for another user, to launch an import on the same customer/site, simultaneously.

It is possible to continue to use ServiceNav during import (background operation).

End of import and review of reports

Once the import is completed, it is retained for 24 hours in the repository of past imports.

It is possible to download the report of each import, in order to be able, for example, to revisit ignored or erroneous entries.
